From its humble beginnings as a night school for working students, the College continues to blaze trails for innovative educational programs with a thrust on learner-centered educational philosophy.
Benilde is known for pioneering degree programs that were not considered career-viable decades ago and hence, were not offered in other colleges and universities. Today, we are recognized for our innovation and we continue to offer non-traditional programs that are responsive to established industries and emerging fields of specializations in Deaf applied studies, design and arts, hotel and tourism, business, and diplomatic affairs.
Since 2016, Benilde’s School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management is the only hotel school in the country to hold a Level IV status, the highest recognition given by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU), and to be recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at the same time. Benilde’s School of Management and Information Technology has been conferred as a CHED Center of Excellence for its Business Administration programs as well, and has achieved PAASCU Level 4 status in Human Resource Management and Export Management. With the recent accreditation activities, the College now has 13 degree programs accredited under PAASCU, highlighting the College’s drive to ensure that industry-grade quality education is offered to our students.
In 2024, Benilde’s autonomous status has been renewed by CHED through the issuance of Memorandum Order No. 7, Series of 2024, extending this recognition until 2027. This continuation builds on the College’s initial grant of autonomous status in 2019 under CMO No. 12, Series of 2019. Additionally, Benilde has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for the third time, covering the Academic Years 2022 to 2025, following its previous recognitions from 2019 to 2021.
In his time, St. John Baptist de La Salle created a community of Christian schools throughout France. But what he’s actually done is transform the structure and system of education across four centuries all over the world, a legacy for which he was proclaimed Patron Saint of Teachers. St. La Salle established free schools and formed the community that became known as the Brothers of the Christian Schools. His legacy lives on today, as De La Salle Brothers, assisted by more than 100,000 lay colleagues, teach over 1,000,000 students in more than 80 countries.
Vatel Hotel and Tourism Business School was also awarded Best Hospitality Management School in the 17th Worldwide Hospitality Awards in 2017. Benilde’s International Hospitality Management program is a member of the International Network of Vatel Schools.
